Sports Agent Speaks to Sports Management Class

A good percentage of sport management majors have a goal of becoming the next Jerry Maguire – or perhaps the next Cameron Foster.
Foster is the founder and managing director of Foster Easley Sports Management Group. It’s an agency that helps athletes with contract negotiations, marketing and commercial endorsements, community involvement, and draft training and preparation. They cover multiple sports, though Foster started in football and is still the small firm’s “football guy.”
On Thursday, March 13, the football team’s Pro Day took place. As safety Deone Bucannon’s agent, Foster was in Pullman, and agreed to make time to talk to multiple sport management classes.
“I thought it was very thoughtful of him to do this, because he had a lot on his plate with Deone [Bucannon],” clinical assistant professor Chris Lebens said. “It was extremely valuable for our students to hear from a guy who has been very successful.”
Foster started the agency in 1989 with former Seattle Seahawk Kenny Easley. Foster explained to students the reason behind keeping their agency small: better service.
As it says on the Foster Easley website:
“They wanted to create a sports group that limits the number of clients it represents to offer a select few players the highest level of personal dedication, attention and time commitment necessary to represent professional athletes. Why limit clients? As the Seattle Seahawks #1 draft choice (4th overall) in 1980, Kenny was a client of a large sports management group. He experienced first-hand the problems that athletes face when being represented by large agencies. When he retired from the NFL in 1989 due to kidney failure, Kenny didn’t hear from his agent for nearly six months thereafter due to his agent not having the time.”
Foster told students he is excited with how well Bucannon did during the NFL Scouting Combine and called him the best safety available in the draft.
